Leech (Palindrome)

Learning to loathe my own company

Skeletal hands
Through the cobwebs
Pulling me in
Swamp water drink

I’m a leech
It’s true

Let me feed

Full of electrodes
The radio on
Vibratory

Pulsator and acid rain
Tingling in this requiem

Advance Praise:

Andre Breton asserted that “a poem is a debacle of the intellect.” Samuel Strathman proves that point throughout this alternately intriguing, amusing and terrifying collection. The omnishambles is perhaps that of pop culture and high culture, and our place within or alongside both. Allusions pile up like cigarette ash, and our laughter blows them away. The undead make frequent appearances; imagine a Renaissance vanitas painting in which the skull springs out of the frame, incisors ready to rip your throat. The illustrations are extraordinary, their muted palette of sepias and greys establishing a quietly powerful dialogue with the poems. Omnishambles will appeal to anyone who admires George Hitchcock or Charles Simic; like those poets, Strathman deadpans his way through a dreamlike world that is unsettlingly familiar. – James Knight, publisher STEEL INCISORS.

“There is a haunting and unsettling dialogue between Strathman’s sharp poetry and child-like art that is quite effective in its simplicity and precision. A collection of beautiful poems and art. Please buy this book.” – Hasan Namir, Canadian author.

Looking out the window of this collection, you’ll begin to notice the strangeness of the world we live in but also the beauty in that strangeness.  – Travis Tate, poet.
