Between the Sheets
everyone is having
a grand old time
before
the tumblers
and mummers start up
for thousands of years
occupied large village
on this site
where now we’re staying
at a hotel
war
an all year topic
slotted
between customs
and religion
acid rain
a humanitarian
mission
feeding refugees
our arms created
bicycle cursive
on strip of snow
in the gutter ~
added to library
tabloids
confronting
the sawfish
face to face —
neighborhood looking
the wrong way
midnight
where a sugar plantation
once stood
a young man pushes
a dust mop
mural on gate
to the dumpster
depicting a road
leading off
into the distance
egg white scramble
I’m beginning
to think
these unmanageable
lives came first
galley proof
inker doesn’t understand
why
they all need
semicolons
yanking
the belt harder
won’t make it release
north wind
and the sun
unabashed
wiry and brass
on her head
carrying the light:
